Until today, April 30, 2026, I had assumed that I could rely on taking my dogs to Marley’s. However, my expectations were shattered when I discovered that they do not prioritize emergency cases without an appointment. I visited them at 8:00 a.m., the very moment they opened, seeking assistance for my dog, who was experiencing vomiting and blood in his feces. (This has occurred before, and it invariably results in gastritis, necessitating antibiotic treatment.) Upon informing the staff of the situation, I was informed that I would have to schedule an appointment. They suggested that it was likely a viral infection. I informed them that this has happened in the past, and the veterinarian’s usual course of action is to treat it with antibiotics. They offered to leave a note for the veterinarian, and I would receive a call or be scheduled for an appointment. However, I was unable to wait, given the severity of my dog’s condition. I left and contacted Meadville Animal Hospital, where they promptly admitted my dog. They were surprised that my veterinarian was unable to see my dog for an emergency, considering that they were open when I informed them of the situation. They expressed relief that I had brought my dog in, as small dogs are particularly vulnerable to such issues. Today, just a few dollars short of $600, my dog’s condition recurred, and it was determined to be gastritis. I was also recommended to undergo an autoimmune test, as this is a recurring issue. This test will be documented to assist in future treatment, and once I establish with a new veterinarian, it can be managed more effectively, avoiding the exorbitant emergency fees that are so prevalent. Later, when I returned home with my dog, I decided to visit Marley’s again to discuss my concerns with the veterinarian. She had already left for the day, so I inquired if I could leave my concerns with the her, and she agreed. I reiterated everything I had told the staff in the morning, emphasizing that I was told veterinarian does not come in until 9:00 a.m. and that in the event of an emergency, she would refer me to another facility do to having appointments . This situation has led me to question the value of my current veterinarian. It is disheartening to see the lack of care provided at Marley’s. My animals are not just pets; they are my family, and they hold immense significance in my life. It is unfortunate that a random veterinarian was willing to treat my dog and provide me with upmost care, while my own veterinarian was unable to do so.
