The staff here is wonderful!! Everyone is so friendly. Sammy the vet assistant was so sweet and gentle with my dog. She really listened to my concerns and didn’t rush us. Dr Makem was fabulous as well. Very kind and knowledgeable and provided lots of different options for care. I can’t imagine takings my pets anywhere else!

I had been taking my Pomeranian to Pennridge Animal Hospital for over 12 years. In the early years, when the owners were more involved, the care was excellent, with thorough exams, consistent doctors, and a high level of trust. I relied on them for everything from routine checkups to vaccines, spaying, and ongoing care. As the practice grew, the experience changed. We rarely saw the same veterinarian twice, and I started receiving inconsistent opinions. About a year ago, my dog developed a persistent dry cough. I brought this up repeatedly, at multiple visits, and even sent videos so they could hear exactly what was happening. Each time, my concerns were dismissed as allergies, and I was told to give Zyrtec. I trusted their judgment because they are medical professionals, and I was consistently reassured that her heart and lungs sounded normal. Just a few months ago, during a routine visit, I was again told everything sounded “great,” and that was documented in their notes. Then, when her condition suddenly worsened, I took her to an emergency vet. Within seconds, the doctor identified a clearly audible grade 4 heart murmur and explained she was in heart failure. Her heart was enlarged and pressing on her trachea, which explained the cough I had been raising concerns about for months. Four days later, I had to make the devastating decision to put her down as her health drastically worsened. What is most upsetting is that this was not a one-time oversight. This was a pattern of concerns being dismissed. I trusted trained medical professionals to listen, investigate, and recognize serious symptoms. Instead, I was repeatedly told it was “just allergies,” while a severe heart condition went undetected. It is incredibly difficult to understand how something this significant was missed after multiple exams and clear, ongoing symptoms. After 12 years of loyalty, this experience has completely broken my trust. I will never recommend Pennridge Animal Hospital ever again. If you feel something is wrong with your pet, do not ignore your instincts seek a second opinion immediately. Instead of going so commercial with this practice, I think you should’ve focused on quality doctors that know all animals and symptoms of various concerns instead of quantity that don’t know what they are looking for or how to properly diagnose.

Everyone there was super nice and they were very cautious since my dog had a little cough and kept her separated until we figured out that it was nothing contagious.

The staff and vets are professional and friendly..They explain the medical procedures for our dog clearly, as well as the list of needed medications printed out in sequence. Very happy with the care, phone contacts and reminders!
