Misdiagnosed my cat with FELV, fluid in abdomen, and cancer. Recommended euthansia. Turns out he is just skinny from a worm infestation. Brought my cat here because he wasn't eating. We were pretty sure it was a tooth problem so she examined his teeth, thought she felt a little wiggle, and we scheduled him for an x-ray and tooth extraction as well as bloodwork/urinalysis. When we arrived to pick our cat up, she informed us that he did not need the tooth extracted. She told us he has fluid in his stomach, cancer, and FELV. She did not elaborate much other than explaining that there is not much than can be done, FELV is not curable, and treatments (that barely work) for FELV are very expensive. She recommended euthansia. I decided to bring my cat to Dr Bob at Southtown Vet in Montrose for a second opinion. When I went back to Acre Lake to take a picture of the x-ray for Southtown, Dr Margaret Stinavage looked at me and said "What is Southtown Vet going to do that I haven't already done?" First thing Dr Bob from Southtown did was explain to us that she completely misread the x-ray and the urinalysis. The x-ray was not showing fluid in his abdomen - it represented a very skinny cat. He has no fluids present in his abdomen. Then he told us the urinalysis results are completely impossible, showing both high glucose and high ketones, conflicting with the normal PH in his bloodwork. We don't understand why this wasn't a red flag to Dr. Margaret that the urinalysis results were off. She also did not tell us how long to administer our cat's amoxicillin for. We asked Dr. Bob. Dr. Bob from Southtown recommended we bring in a hand collected urine sample for him to analyze. He then immediately administered our cat fluids since he was dehydrated and vitamin B12 at our request to help alleviate his anemia - he warned us if our cat was experiencing an FELV leukemia crisis, the B12 won't help, but otherwise it might. He then explained in detail exactly what FELV is without dumbing it down, provided us a detailed printout, and came up with a game plan for the next couple weeks. We returned to Dr. Bob at his request for more subcutaneous fluids to help our cat's dehydration, to turn in the urine for analysis, and to collect a new bloodwork sample to see how our cat's condition had progressed. Before that appointment, I read over the paperwork from Acre Lake.... And realized it was likely she never tested our cat for FELV before diagnosing him. She didn't say it was LIKELY he has FELV, she said he definitely had FELV and did not offer to test to confirm. So I asked Southtown to perform the test. It was only $60. He is negative for FELV. He does not have fluids in his abdomen. And she didn't understand the urinalysis results were impossible. It really seems like Dr Margaret here at Acre Lake does not know what she is doing. "What is Southtown Vet going to do that I haven't done?" she asked. Everything. She didn't even offer to conduct a test for FELV before offering to euthanize my cat. I have decided I will not be bringing my pets here anymore.

We just started going there. They seem good with the dog. Place is in the middle of the country which is a nice ride. They really care. Prices are not as high as other vets. I hope they get more business because it's really good.

They are very nice and the prices were great comparing to where we usually go. The dr was wonderful with my dog AND me, as I was panicking. She took great care & fully explained everything to me. Since my dog refuses to get a pedicure willingly, we already visited again so she could be sedated for a nail trim. Great people!
