Content warning cancer in dog: My blue heeler has been taken care of by Dr. Bertram for the past 2 months for cancer treatment and a multitude of other things, phone calls, meds, questions etc. And I am grateful to have Dr. Bertram to take care of my dog. I couldn't tell you what one of the visits cost me but I can tell you my dog has been treated with extreme care and compassion this entire time. I cant thank you all enough for taking care of my luna ❤️ including the vet techs and front desk ladies as well you are all important!

We have been seeing Dr. Wilson and staff for almost 15 years. She was wonderful when we had to make difficult decisions regarding two older boxers awhile ago. Fast forward to last week-I called the office on Monday needing to schedule an appointment for our senior pug. She was almost 14 years old. She was definitely needing to be comfortable and laid to rest. After placing me on hold,she came back to say that the soonest appointment would be Wednesday at 4pm. My poor,Shelby, was not comfortable and ended up passing the morning of that appointment around 2 am. When I called the office on Wednesday,I requested that Dr. Wilson please call me. I also explained to the person who answered what had transpired. She was kind and apologized. She did seem as though she felt awful for our situation. She agreed I should have been offered a same day appointment as I had been in the past for something like that. To this date,I have not received a phone call from Dr. Wilson. It's very upsetting and disappointing.

Over the summer, we took our dog to the vet for what we thought would be a simple hotspot on the side of his face. The first visit included antibiotics and shaving some of the area. We asked if he would need a cone and they said that he probably would not need it because the antibiotic would take care of it if he scratched at it. They also sold us a bottle of beta-gen spray to spray on it to help with healing. Fast forward and he was not improving so we took him back for another visit and they shaved more fur than we thought that they would. At that visit, we got a cone and more of the beta and spray as well as some wipes to wipe him off to keep the area clean. We did that for a while, but again it continued to spread over the area that they had shaved more fur from. When we called to see what we should do for a third time we were told to stop the beta gen spray because it could be irritating the area. If they knew it was a potential irritant why were we sold two bottles of it at $36 each? We had already spent close to $400 and missed work to be able to get this hotspot healed up for him. Because he was not healing, really at all, we took him to another vet to get a second opinion where he was given a steroid shot to help him heal. We also bought an inflatable cone because he wouldn’t wear the big one that we got from that original vet at the second visit. He has always had stomach issues and a sensitive G.I. tract when it comes to medication. He had some diarrhea while he was on the anabiotic and then it continued after the steroid shot and he began to poop blood, so we took him to the emergency room. While we were at the emergency room, they asked who the primary vet was so we told them Claysville, not thinking anything of it. They did not ask who prescribed the diarrhea medication or who gave him the steroid shot. If they had, I would’ve told them the vet that we got the second opinion from. I only answered the question they asked. My concern was not anything other than my dog. A few days after that visit, I got a call from Dr. Wilson at Claysville Animal Care regarding the discharge paperwork that they got from the emergency room. She was upset because we told them that Claysville was the primary care and that she did not prescribe the medications that were listed on the discharge paperwork. She stated that it made her look bad to other vets and that the medication he was given was not best practice.We took the diarrhea medication we were given at the second vet when we took him to the ER. Dr. Wilson stated that if that’s the kind of care we want then we should take our dogs to that vet. I don’t appreciate the UNPROFESSIONAL/ RUDE tone and I don’t think that any of this should be about her reputation. I was not trying to be malicious or say bad things about anybody. I don’t think it’s best practice to contact clients and yell at them when it was simply a miscommunication. I called the emergency room and explained to them the RUDE phone call and the lady at the ER said that Claysville would not have gotten any information that my husband and I did not get. I asked her to please update the primary care vet to reflect the vet that we got the second opinion from. I also have to say that previously we had a good experience at Claysville, but this simply showed me that the concern is not the animals, but the reputation of the providers in the practice. We will not be taking our pets there and I would not recommend the practice to anyone looking for a new vet.
